…these kids are matching that commitment with their own as they work toward making the most of their own potential.

Newton and Jasper County’s greatest strength has always been in its people as expressed through the hard work they do to support one another and to continually improve this place we all call home.

In this issue, we feature several stories of just that sort. You’ll see it in our story of two Newton Elementary students who are creating connection, through their own initiative, within their school and our community. It’s also evident in the professional arc of Athletic Director and longtime educator, Craig Carr, who is retiring this year; in the hard work of Custodian, Norm Short, and in the commitment to excellence you’ll read about in our Illinois State Scholars and our FFA Judging Teams, who represented the State of Illinois in Denver this year. These and others who are doing their part to make our school community—and beyond—better than they found it are what make this place so special.

It is a genuine privilege to be part of this community and to play even a small part in the outcomes of Jasper County students. As I walk the hallways of our pre-k, kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school, it is impossible to ignore the depth of commitment each of our faculty and staff members is making toward the outcomes of our kids. And, just as surely as day follows night, these kids are matching that commitment with their own as they work toward making the most of their own potential.

As we continue to write the Jasper County story, day-by-day, I hope you’re enjoying the glimpse inside our buildings we’re bringing you each quarter with the Magazine, Podcasts, and other updates. Because, in a very real sense, whether you have kids in school here or not, these are your schools. Stay tuned as we move forward, but don’t hesitate to share your feedback with me on how we’re doing. We’re always better when we tackle things together, and your voice is as important as any. #flytogether

Sincerely,
