From the

Superintendent

Joe Sornberger

I am beyond proud of what our Jasper County School community has accomplished during the first year of my tenure here.

You may have heard that Summer is a time for our schools to rest. A time when students and teachers, alike, take a break from the routines of classroom learning, lunchrooms, courts, fields, and playgrounds. That may be true on some levels and in some places, but here in Jasper County, a whole bunch of us are still hard at it, readying the facilities, assembling the team, and sharpening our focus on making the most of our start of school just a few short weeks away.

The classrooms of life persist, right on through the summer months, and all of us are committed to giving our students—PK through rising Seniors—the best possible educational experience we can in the new school year. Speaking of making the most of the summer months, students, too, would do well to spend some of their off-time exploring new things and considering new ideas through reading, journaling and, perhaps, a visit to some of the cultural and historical sites we have within a very short drive of our community. That’s the thing about becoming a life-long learner; it doesn’t always happen within the walls of a classroom.

As we complete one year and prepare for the next, I am struck with the progress we’ve made and continue to make as a school community. Our faculty and staff are committed to the success of our students; volunteerism, parent engagement, student mentoring through summer work and other opportunities—along with our summertime facility maintenance—are all in high-gear, as we prepare for the start of the 23-24 school year.

As an administrator, I am beyond proud of what our Jasper County School community has accomplished during the first year of my tenure here, but as both a taxpayer and a parent, I am thrilled to be among those families who send their children to Jasper County Schools. I say that with confidence because I know that the academic, social, and exposure to extracurricular activities all of our children receive here will prepare them as well as any school in the region for their next steps. So, as I finish out my first full year here, not only as your Superintendent, but as a parent and member of this community, I want to say thank you for welcoming us and for being so supportive of Jasper County youth—including my own.

I hope you’re enjoying your summer and that we’ll see you again this fall. Until then, we’ll be here, getting ready for another amazing year with the Jasper County School community!

Sincerely,
