It is quite a thing—an honor and a privilege, really—to witness the growth of these sons and daughters of Jasper County as they make their way forward.

This will be our last issue of Fly Together before we break for summer and our seniors scatter toward their considered futures; before our PK through eleventh-graders put another ring on their respective trunks, and before time marches on and our kids march on with it. It is quite a thing—an honor and a privilege, really—to witness the growth of these sons and daughters of Jasper County as they make their way forward.

In the following pages, you’ll read about clever young business people, hardworking scholars, creative and compassionate thespians, and a man whose life began in Baltimore but who, through a series of twists, turns, and hundreds of hours on the lake, has made a tremendous difference in the lives of our Jasper County youth.

The theme that seems to resonate across every story our students, alumni, team members, and community volunteers share is one of community, or rather the love of community. Recently, our neighbors in Crawford County suffered the unimaginable when an EF-3 tornado ravaged more than 40 miles and hundreds of structures, taking three lives before entering Indiana. Again, this community—our community—came together in a very practical sense in support of those in need. It might have been us, but when I saw how we came together in support of our Crawford County neighbors, I was reminded, once again, of the invisible lines of demarcation so many of you willingly and instantly stepped across, and of the spirit of compassion that lives in our midst. I’m grateful for that.

Congratulations to our seniors, good luck on your respective journeys, and never forget that you come from a place that will collectively, always be in your corner.

Sincerely,

Joe Sornberger
